Anna Elizabeth Marshall Clothier
Prairie Quilts & Pioneer Stories is the first in a three-book series that tells
the dramatic and poignant story of my great grandmother, Anna
Elizabeth Marshall Clothier.

Little girls in their calicoe
dresses.
This book portrays Annas life
at the age of seventeen when she married an eighteen-year-old
Union soldier, James Byron Clothier, in 1868, and their move
to Kansas after the Civil War. These stories have passed through
the Clothier family from letters, courthouse records, published
accounts and from mother to daughter, father to son and grandparents
to grandchildren.

Mother and babe.
These stories include the covered wagon
trip from Missouri to Kansas and living in a sod house, her twenty-four
years of childbearing which brought seventeen children into the
world, of which only two babies failed to thrive,
the grasshopper plague of 1874 as well as Annas fear of
angry Indians. Her children provided stories of tragedy and humor.
The prosperity achieved by this remarkable family against all
odds is inspiring.

Picking wildflowers on the prairie.
Prairie Quilts & Pioneer
Stories contain full size
patterns, color suggestions, yardage and pattern instructions
for all projects. Quilt designs include five pieced quilts, three
appliquéd quilts and pillowslips, one quilt that is both
pieced and appliquéd, and a primitive cloth doll named
Sylvia. There are projects for both beginning and experienced
quiltmakers.
