"Peace Hath Her Victories"... an abundance of food. The People of the Plains- Quilts & Stories 1890-1920. "The People of the Plains" continues the story of the Clothier family homesteading in Peace Creek, Kansas 1890-1920. Stunning quilts, both pieced and appliqued, feature themes drawn from the pioneers and the first people of the plains, Native Americans. Indian woman and her baby with two or three quilts drying in the breeze behind them. The book tells the story of my maternal grandparents, Reka & Wilford Clother and my maternal grandparents Vera and Delbert Clothier and their children, c.1900-1920. It also accounts the hardships suffered on the plains by settlers and Native Americans during this period. I have designed the quilts and projects to relate to these stories and events. Wilford and Reka Clothier on their wedding day. Quilt designs include: "A Perfect Garden"... inspired by what I consider the perfect union of souls, the 59 year marriage of Reka and Wilford Clothier. "Sweet Peas for Gertie" recalls the death of a young daughter. "Indian Summer" and "A Dressmakers Quilt" are two simple pieced designs that produce beautiful results. Other projects include the wonderful vintage pillow: "Peace Hath Her Victories", Children's Tepees and Dolls, "Jesus Loves You" YoYo Picture, Make-Do's and Pin Cushions. "The People of the Plains" contain full size patterns, color suggestions, yardage and instructions for all projects.
