SUPPLY LISTS FOR WORKSHOPS

Project: Sewing Pocket

Out project is a woman’s pocket, historically tied around the waist and worn under the skirt. Pockets make great sewing pockets and are easy to sew by hand.

Supplies:

- To make a whole cloth chintz pocket, bring 1/3 yard chintz for front & back and 1/3 yard for lining.
- Bring a bias strip cut 1 1/2” x 30” for finishing the top of pocket and the slit opening.
- Basic hand sewing supplies.

Project: Wild Rose Mourning Quilt

Fabric Recommendations
I chose red roses and buds appliquéd to the center of the quilt as an acknowledgement of the many images of sweet roses carved into the headstones. I chose a soft yellow-gold plaid for the background, dull green for stems and the wreath, and a variety of light and dark brown, black and tan florals and stripes for the border.

Yardage:

2/3 yard plaid
for 20" x 20" background block
1/4 yard red print
for roses and buds
1/2 yard green
for bud calyx, wreath and stems
Scrap of yellow
for center of roses
8-10 fat quarters black, brown
and tan

for borders
1/2" bias maker

Students have a choice between Appliqué by the Yard or Piece by the Yard projects. Terry demonstrates an appliqué stitch that is fast and easy, and will change your approach to hand appliqué. Throughout the day she will demonstrate machine appliqué with freezer paper, how to make bias stems with a 1/2” bias maker, berries, dog tooth borders, flat piping, and how to mark your borders with her “Vine Line” tool.
